The Valle Morobbia is rich in minerals, and in the past it has been exploited by iron mining. There is a trail linking the local iron mines and the Maglio di Carena (the Carena forge), where the ore was first smelted and then forged into iron tools. The forge was recently excavated by an archaeology group, and now has a number of interpretive signs. The area is also rich in flora and fauna typical for the Southern Alps. You can reach Bellinzona and Giubiasco in 10-15 minutes; Lugano, Locarno and Ascona in 20 minutes. Milan and Zurich are a 2-hour drive away. The area is also being served by public transport.
